Unique Species

There are many unique and endangered species found in national and state parks throughout the United States. Some examples include:

National Parks:

  • The Bighorn Sheep in the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument in Arizona
  • The Elk in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee
  • The Grizzly bear in the Glacier National Park in Montana
  • The Gray Wolf in the Isle Royale National Park in Michigan
  • The American Alligator in the Everglades National Park in Florida

State Parks:

  • The California Condor in Pinnacles National Park, California
  • The Key Deer in the Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge in Florida
  • The Indiana Bat in the Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio
  • The Karner Blue Butterfly in the Allegany State Park in New York
  • The Oregon Spotted Frog in the Mount Rainier National Park in Washington

It’s worth noting that many of these species are endangered and protected by laws, and park visitors should be aware of these laws and be respectful of these species and their habitats.
